My main tasks for this week were to get to a much better place with the roto; create the color sheet, comp assets as they come in. Here's the super quick slap of shots for the color sheet.

When attempting to pull a key for C02, I found that the black magic camera that we used had very little midtones; hence why I've had issue with pulling our character out of the background. This is the histogram of C02.
Because of this issue it really had me take a step back as to how to approach this part of the project. I had tried luma keying, difference keying, roto with modnet, roto with copycat and roto with vitMatte. Different pieces of these aspects of the different ways of removing the character from the background ended up being the best way to go about pulling the character from the background... heres evidence of that frustration and the best roto I was able to get at this point.

Taking a step back.
Sometimes when working on larger projects I tend to over complicate things thinking that the best way to go about something may inadvertently be the most complex one, even if logically that is not the case. This was the case for this background removal. Taking the Vitmatte with a luminance key and simple copycat is in fact the key.

Heres the layers of the hand and dress for context.
In context, still needs refinement, but leaps and bounds better, and more fluid then what I was able to get prior; and how it is put into the script.
Saw had also given me a render pass of the set extension with the shadows to be incorporated into the scene; my script for just the set extension is on the left.

Saw Htoo : Set Extension and bringing the shadows into the background from Eva Chan's effect

Eva had given me the most up to date pass of the effect, and we have played around a bit with the shadows for the effects
C02's script in its entirety

A01's first part of the roto is almost done, needs to create a couple more iterations. I rotoscoped a couple frames and fed it into a copycat node system with the help of a Modnet and Vitmatte Cattery Tool
